Race Report || Scottish Champs || Dunkeld 2013

When the 2013 calendar was released at the start of the year I took down the dates and started punching them into my calendar. When I got to the Scottish Champs I noticed a severe clash of interests. My girlfriend’s brother’s wedding fell on the same weekend…. Damn! I wrote off being able to race but as details for the wedding started rolling in I realised, if I managed to survive the wedding, I could make it to the race on Sunday morning. Race Entered!

Survive the wedding I did and I rocked up early doors Sunday morning feeling less than prime. Keen as a cucumber I sprinted up the track to check it out and shake off the hangover all in one go. Lines fuzzily locked into my head I wheeled out the Sick Skills steed and got to practice.

First run down I felt rather shaky on the top section, it must have cleared out the cobwebs though as I started to get up to speed as I neared the bottom. The track was ridiculous. So steep and loose up top then so fast and rocky down the bottom. Like last year it is absolutely my favourite race track.

I managed to squeeze in 3 practice runs by the time race runs rolled round. I wasn’t feeling fully ready but I planned to knock out a smooth race run and use it to get me ready for run number 2. That plan went to pot when I got it all wrong before “THE CHUTE” and went down it face first. I decided to cruise down the hill and check out some more lines but I ended up getting too excited and rallied down to the bottom. I got my huck on near the bottom and nearly sumped out on the landing

Congrats to Joe Connell on the win and massive thanks to the Scottish Downhill Association for another amazing race. Can’t wait for Ae Forest! Until then check out this video of my Scottish Champs weekend…. it’s a cracker! ;p

See you on the trails.
